My Life in Words Ophelia Kee Speaks |
#indieauthors #writerslife #amwritingromance #RomanceReaders #paranormalromance How many people can honestly say that they love their job? Can you say that? I don't mean that you like the pay or benefits. I don't mean that you like the company of the people you work with either. Do you actually enjoy the work that you do? I hope most say yes, but I would guess that the truth is far from that. I used to be that person. I used to love the people I worked with. My pay was enough to keep my head above water mostly. But the work itself became a grind as my ability to be creative was slowly removed from the position I held. At the end, I simply walked away. Now I get paid practically nothing, but I have a shot at doing something that has my whole interest. I decide it all. It is exhilarating and frightening, but I am living without regret that I took the risk. I am offering this link to any of you who might be in the position I found myself in. https://youtu.be/zNRFxRSyZXw When you watch this video, know that I was the 40 year old Vishen talks about! Now I am 45. It is harder to choose the path less travelled by as we grow older, but that does not matter because it is still the best path to walk. ![]() This weekend Smoke of the Fire part 1 is FREE! Grab your copy before midnight Sunday. I hope you like it. My story style is a bit different. This short read is a tangential story that is part of the series saga Draoithe. When I wrote this story, it came out of a novel I was writing, but it did not fit. I had to cut most of the scenes in this story out of the novel I was working on. Later I went back and realized that there was a story there that needed to be told. It was not a novel, but it was good. So I polished it, edited it, added the missing details to finish the short story that I saw it as in my mind and decided to publish it too. Why not? After Smoke of the Fire was finished, I realized that other deleted scenes had the same potential. I had published some at the end of Synner and Sainte, but not until Smoke of the Fire did I realize that I could publish short stories as well as novels. The Thread was actually a grouping of deleted scenes that was polished into a short read that I give away at Ophelia Kee. None of this is perfect or easy. I lost count of how many people told me that my covers are not good, my blurbs stink, or asked what I was thinking styling myself as a tiger. My response is still to rub my fingers together over nonexistent money. Only you see, the story is good. Is it life altering? No. Does it appeal to everyone? I hope not. How boring would the world be? LOL. I enjoy learning about the whole Indie author process. For those who have been following my progress since I started this crazy adventure, thank you for your support, and let me know if you think of something that you notice I need to seriously improve. It might take me awhile, but I will look at it nevertheless. For anyone who recently stumbled over my dream, welcome to Draoithe. In this blog I try to give away a bit of what I am offering, tell about what is happening behind the scenes in my writer life, and document the struggle to be an Indie Author. I hope you find this helpful. ![]() In the interest of shameless self promotion, I would be remiss if I did not speak about my upcoming novel, Filth and Death. It is currently available as a preorder from Amazon. Pick it up at the debut price of $3.99. It won't stay at that price long. Synner and Sainte is moving over to Kindle Unlimited on March 12. And Dragon Masters is publishing March 23 (? not set in stone yet). Y'all know the drill. New book gets the debut price. The rest go back to $4.99. Short reads are shifting to $.99, and only A Pack Forms will be $2.99. Anyone who wants to settle a trust fund on me so I could make them all free, I'm all ears. (LOL, laugh, but I can dream, right?) Welcome to Ophelia Kee Speaks. This is a blog chronicling my independent author walk. The journey into the dream has been a life-changing experience as I try to become a full-time writer and leave the professional world behind me. In my blog each day, you will find information on the ‘behind the scenes’ for writing contemporary adult fantasy fiction and paranormal romance stories set in the dream. I will speak on topics detailing with my writing, publishing, promotion, and marketing as well as social media dealing with my books, book trailers, book launches, book art, music, audio, and video, as well as shameless self-promotion. I am not an expert and am not claiming to be one. I am simply one writer offering a glimpse of my struggle to become a successful independent author. Thank you for considering my words.
