You might not Know this... but ebooks on just about every major retailer are sold based on sales rank. Yes ,I know the content matters and books are bought based on the cover, but the real truth is that most people don't search for an author they love, but by the genre they wish to read. They then choose a book from the first ten books that appear from their search.
You might say that's good because a lot of other people have read those books and the customer is more likely to get a book that they are satisfied with. The problem with that is there are more really good books waiting to be read that did not appear on the first page of only ten books. Think about it this way. When you step into the breakfast cereal aisle of the grocery store, what do you find? Are there only ten different varieties of cereal? No. There are fifty or more if you stick to just cold cereals. If we start adding hot cereals, pastries, and energy bars the number of options increases again until it is possible that you face a choice of over a hundred items to possibly purchase.
The question is this: Why limit yourself when purchasing a book when you don't do it when buying breakfast cereal? Don't let the book marketer decide which books are best. Click next a few times and scroll through some pages of thumbnails. Relax and read a few previews and even check out a few reviews, but don't get sucked into buying the first book that displays on the screen. You will never no if you missed an opportunity to buy a better read if you let the system decide for you!
Welcome to Ophelia Kee Speaks. This is a blog chronicling my independent author walk. The journey into the dream has been a life-changing experience as I try to become a full-time writer and leave the professional world behind me. In my blog each day, you will find information on the ‘behind the scenes’ for writing contemporary adult fantasy fiction and paranormal romance stories set in the dream. I will speak on topics detailing with my writing, publishing, promotion, and marketing as well as social media dealing with my books, book trailers, book launches, book art, music, audio, and video, as well as shameless self-promotion. I am not an expert and am not claiming to be one. I am simply one writer offering a glimpse of my struggle to become a successful independent author. Thank you for considering my words.
