Christmas Writing

As a classroom teacher, the day job is serious and often requires most of my attention. Sure I work the 8 hour shift, but planning, grading, and prep work often goes on after hours and teachers burn the midnight oil probably a bit more productively than most undergrads. The holidays are nice well deserved breaks from the routine and long hours. It's a respite time for unwinding, relaxing, enjoying the family, home cooked meals, and finally, when even that's done, it's time to write!
This year, the job sees me in Florida and the tight money situation that I need to climb out of has forced me to sit still and miss most of the family stuff. I'm refusing to cry about it. Instead I have turned to my writing for solace and am over 10 k up in the Kings Wilde story I started a long time back. It's getting good. So long as the scenes flow, I want to write.
Is it the story I thought I needed to finish? No. Is it a Christmas story? No. Is it a traditional PNR? No. But I don't write the stories I want to write. I write the scene the way the characters reveal it to me. I have no idea what's coming next, but it's going to be good.
This miniseries is the strangest of tales. Mafia romance meets paranormal fantasy. Need a glimpse? I've shared bits of this story before, but allow me to introduce the old man.
"Viktor was starving. He’d been shot. He woke up as a polar bear. Someone had burned down his house, and he was being spied upon. It wasn’t turning out to be a good morning. A shot of vodka might be in order before someone died. Retirement might be for dead men." -Viktor Wilde From Kings Wilde by Ophelia Kee Coming Soon!

The epic saga starts here, but if you truly need a grand escape there are many volumes in this colossal saga. If you love PNR and adult fantasy, check this series out! As an indie author, I have no issue debasing myself and begging for reviews even though my ethical code prevents me from ever paying for them. If you are new to the dream, welcome! If you have been with me for awhile, sincerest thanks at Christmas, you are the reason the story must be told. Questions, Comments, suggestions? I would love to hear your thoughts. Drop me a line somewhere when you finish a read.  Need another free read? Visit Ophelia Kee and grab Draoithe: The Thread to go with it.

Merry Christmas

I want to wish you all Merry Christmas. 2020 has been a harsh year. Loss of our customs and traditions due to the strictures placed on us in our attempt to defeat a disease have caused hardships the world over. But it's not all sad and depression. I have spent my life wanting out. Allow me to be the one who offers you hope in my sure knowledge that there is always a way out! As I look toward the New Year, I have hope that my stories will aid others in their escape whether it be a moment or a few hours. In a real sense, sometimes just a small escape allows us a chance to see the world around us in a new light. So please allow me to encourage you to read, enjoy art, music, and literature. See the play, watch the movie, dance with others. One of greatest contributions mankind makes to the world is inspiring thought and interest through cultural endeavors. One of the oldest forms of entertainment is storytelling. I'm not the best, but I did choose to write the story in my mind. If it may entertain someone else, then that was the point. Merry Christmas Everyone. I'm looking forward to the New Year in the dream. May you do the same.
Be Careful!
Happy reading,
Ophelia Kee

Revisions and Edits

It's the first weekend in a very long time that no new title is publishing. It's almost Christmas, and I have a two week vacation from the day job, so I am focusing on finishing the revisions and publishing all the stories as 6x9 paperbacks. Grammarly is helping with the revisions and minor edits. (Always there is a comma in the wrong place or an extra period. SMH Edits are the bane of writing.)
Picture
I have finished the short reads of the Dream Therapy miniseries and will be uploading the 6x9 paperback today! I am excited to get them all finished and move forward with the publishing. While I am revising and publishing 2nd edition paperbacks, I am also building all the miniseries and adding those miniseries to the main series on Amazon. It is a bit of work, but I hope it might be helpful to readers trying to navigate the saga. (Keep laughing. I was only going to write one book. My side hurts everytime I think of that I have laughed so hard.)
Honestly, though, isn't this just the coolest book cover? This is an awesome story too. The deaf architectural designer meets a black bear dreaminverter who has long been disabled by his magic. For the bear to claim his mate he has to overcome both their issues and keep her safe from men like Frank Grimes and the shadowed evil of Peter Elliot. This one is a thrill ride into the magic of the dream. The 6x9 Paperback will be available to order before Christmas!

Draoithe: Dream Therapy

Jace Weda is an immortal bear shifter whose dream inversion gift has crippled his life. He is an accomplished pilot, but can’t handle the stress of driving a car. When he and his brother take a mission to hunt a rapist for Fox, his life changes drastically, and leaving California for Draoithe in the summer of 2016 is the only solution to avoid disastrous blowback from a deadly enemy. Living at Draoithe grants him a new perspective and an opportunity for a brand new life with therapy and counseling for the dream magic he was born with. It also brings an unexpected encounter with the deaf architectural design artist. One-touch, and he is hooked. When he catches the contractor beating her, he loses his mind and beats the fool unconscious, but that is where his life gets complicated. He wants the contractor's head, but taking care of the beautiful deaf designer takes precedence. When he learns that she is in trouble because of the work she did in designing his new home, he realizes that all his hope for something more with her could simply vanish like smoke on the wind. Jace must find a way to help the fiercely independent woman he desperately needs and keep her safe from the pitfalls of his world.

The cover on this one did get me in trouble with Facebook once. They decided it went against selling tobacco or other drugs!? It's a book cover with smoke. Really? Oh well. The bots on social media are a bit warped. What can you do? Just let it go.  LOL! I posted it to Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, and Youtube. Amazon let me use it and they do have rules too, so whatever crazy Facebook. The cover was too good not to use it. This excerpt got banned on Facebook too. LOL. I run into that alot with the shifter animal images. Oh well. I write adult fantasy/paranormal romance. I suppose it was bound to happen. I am still laughing though. I do not now, nor have I ever attempted to advertise the sale of any black bears. Just for the record.

Freebies! and Future Goals

I intend to give away some of my stories for free after Christmas, so be on the lookout for them on Amazon and my crazy promos on social media. As always, The Thread is perma FREE on OpheliaKee.com. If you have not yet read the Prologue to A Pack Forms, you might want to pick it up.  As we finally get away from 2020. I am looking at changes for next year. I want to keep publishing the saga and finish writing the last of the stories in it. Sadly, it is almost done. The next books I write I might consider publishing a different route. I do need help with the marketing and promoting so I think I have to work on that and I also have to figure out merchandising, and audio or video books. 2021, here I come.
I have to run away! Thanks for stopping by today! If you read, please be kind and leave reviews. All authors will love you for it, but Indie Authors will love you a little more.
Merry Christmas!
Be Careful!
Happy reading,

Fixing My Mistakes

12/11/2020

Picture
Welcome to the dream. In this blog, I want to tell you some of the recent and embarrassing truths about my authorwalk if for no other reason than it might save some other aspiring author from some of the pitfalls I have managed to fall into.
1. I have realized that I must write and move on. I have many titles published. I always want readers to have the very best experience possible in my stories, but if I wish to write more, I need to improve and what I am doing and leave the mistakes in the past as they are. Having said that, I will say that I am revising and publishing all of the currently published stories with better formatting (6x9 paperbacks) and minor editing. I have learned a lot from my mistakes in the past and will not be repeating them. Correcting them all constantly is a bit difficult though.
2. I am not rich and I won't ever likely become rich. I never think that my books will be an overnight success story, and advertising is a game for people who have the money to spend on it. I don't have it and so am discontinuing paid advertising on my books until I have more money to explore it. I was never one to waste my money, and I get almost the exact same results from my personal free promotion as I do for any paid promotion. SO unless you have money to sink into advertising, and an aggressive desire to learn about advertising, I suggest you don't pay for ads. Learn it first and only spend money you can afford to lose.
3. I write adult fantasy/paranormal romance. Most of it is contemporary. I am not ashamed of my stories and I want them to be in the very best genre placement possible. I don't ever want to unintentionally mislead someone into believing that I write something else.  There is nothing worse than thinking I got hoodwinked with something I purchased. I am systematically updating the listing of all my books to reflect that. I am not the best author out there, but I am an honest and dedicated one. I am the only author in the dream, and I passionately want to share that world with anyone else who enjoys adult fantasy stories.
4. I definitely write using adult themes in violence, sex, and social issues. I am not denying that ever. All my stories end in HEA or HFN as far as any romance aspect, but most of the fantasy aspect is definitely a cliffhanger ending for each miniseries in the saga. (No, the story is not finished yet, but within the next two years it should all be published!)

5. I write long. It's a truth I live with. (I was going to write one book. Lol. There are over twenty novel length stories along with several short reads now.) If you choose to write, know your strengths. I edit short. It is too damn hard doing it all by myself with my shoestring budget to try to edit long. I want to publish more and continue the saga, not bog down with the edits, proofreading and revisions. I want to write. I like the rest of the publishing industry, but what I love is the story. So yeah, you can read my short read miniseries on Kindle Unlimited for FREE! But you can also buy my complete miniseries on Amazon for half off the short read price because my heart is in the novel, not the short story.

Draoithe: No Negotiations Volume 18 in the Draoithe saga is now LIVE on Amazon!
Gaspard Gautier is a gryphon on a mission to save other gryphons and add them to the dwindling numbers at the Gryphon castle. After a recent failed negotiation with his son, his personal life is in shambles yet he embarks on another mission with a crisis of conscience. The vile situation he finds upon locating two new gryphons is like a scene from a horror movie until the real nightmare begins. The woman he has searched for his entire life shows up only to think he caused the evil she witnesses. He tries to explain, but the gun in her hand leaves him no room for negotiation. He wakes up weak and disoriented in Draoithe’s infirmary barely still alive. Convalescence is going to take a few weeks he doesn’t have and the woman who shot him is now his dragonsworn servant. With his mission a failure and no way to negotiate with his commanders about the timeline he will fail to meet, he finds himself in the midst of a midlife crisis. She is everything, and he must find a way to claim her even though relationships with the dragonsworn are forbidden and punishable by death.

Miniseries Complete!

It's done! The Conclusion to the No Negotiations  miniseries is live on Kindle!  For those who have just stumbled over the dream, I write adult fantasy paranormal romance. I write in a saga format which means that while the main characters in a story are involved in a romantic affair, a serious fantasy story is going on in the background and running through the books so that the stories are all linked with main characters from other stories making brief appearances in the other books. Each miniseries is a stand alone read that would be enhanced if read with the rest of the saga. There is an order to the saga purely to understand the fantasy backstory, but after the first five books, the books could easily be read in almost any order.  All parts of Volume 18 are now available to read. I will compile the parts into a complete miniseries and publish the story in its entirety next weekend.

Author Walk Continues!

Picture
I love to write, but life does not always make it easy for me to do so. There is definitely a creative obsessive muse for me. When the scene flows in my mind, I want to write it. I want to tell the story of the characters. All too often I have a life that I must attend to first and before I know it, the scene has fled. I must wait for it to return to me again. Sigh... That is my truth with the writing. So in between the times when the scene flows and I write furiously with my fingers flying hard and fast over the laptop keyboard, I edit. I reread. I learn about publishing and marketing. I learn about audio books and video books. I learn about the tantalizing idea behind animating my stories. I wish them to have a life of their own outside of my head. Maybe some day I will figure it out. What I know for sure is that if it is to get accomplished, it must be by my own hand. I don't have money. I will never be wealthy and don't want to be.  Even if I had the money, I would not wish for another to do this for me. I wish to know. I need to understand it. I don't know how it is for other writers. But for me, I desire to own everything about my stories in the way that Rockefeller wanted to control everything about the oil industry. When you read my stories, I want you to feel as if you had a Kee experience and walk away knowing that it was unique. So please enjoy my stories, write me a few reviews here and there, but above all else ask me questions and make comments. I get better because of you!

Social Media

Picture
I have backed away from a lot of my social media. I know it is not good for exposure of my work, but it was necessary. I simply do not have the time to keep up with it all. I still have a Pinterest, Tumblr, and Twitter presence, but I'm not very active on those platforms. Youtube has always been a repository for videos related to Draoithe, and I would love to grow support on that platform. It isn't very easy, and I lack the time to put into it. I'm seriously disappointed in my inability to craft the video books I wanted to try out. Oh well. I will keep working on it.
I am still very active on Facebook and on Instagram. If you want to see what is going on in the dream on a daily basis, find me on social media. Just know that I do have to handle my day job, so my response time is trash. I will get to it, but it won't be immediate. Hope it gets better.
Duty calls. My house needs straightening. As always if you read, please be kind and leave your review. I will catch up with you next week and please enjoy all my stories for FREE with Kindle Unlimited!
Be Careful!
Merry Christmas,
